Top 2024 Interior Design Trends

It’s the end of the year, which can only mean one thing: it’s time to delve into the leading interior design predictions for 2024!

2024 Color Trends for Interiors

The most anticipated color announcement world-wide, the Pantone Color Institute has chosen Peach Fuzz as its 2024 Color of the Year.

The delicate peach hue feels modern and fresh, yet utterly timeless. Chosen as a reflection of, “our innate yearning for closeness and connection,” PANTONE 13-1023 Peach Fuzz is poised to enrich our interiors with warmth, elegance, and comfort.

Pantone’s choice of 2024 Color of the Year is also incredibly in tune with the ongoing reimaging of neutral hues. While Peach Fuzz is saturated enough to function as a stand-alone color, it’s also soft enough to serve as a neutral foundation for any room.

PANTONE 13-1023 Peach Fuzz stands out from a veritable sea of blues chosen by the major paint brands. From Sherwin-Williams' light and airy Upward to Benjamin Moore’s rich Blue Nova, blues color the majority of the paint authorities' picks. Going against the tide are Behr’s soft black Cracked Pepper, Glidden’s golden beige Limitless, and HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams Persimmon, a toned-down terracotta that comes closest to Pantone’s pick.

2024 Interior Design Trends

As more design enthusiasts aim to personalize their homes, clear-cut ‘new year’ trends are becoming less distinct. Pair this with a growing commitment to sustainability, and it’s really no surprise that we’re seeing more trend roll-over. However, we think that’s something to celebrate!

We’ve always been advocates of timeless style with a twist. We love that people are thoughtfully crafting homes that reflect who they are and will inspire them for years to come.

Trends, however, are invaluable for pushing the envelope forward. Here are the design standards primed and ready for reimagining in 2024:

Curated, not Cookie-Cutter

2024 interior design sees our love for personalization and raises it to new heights!

Modern design ethos has advocated for choosing only pieces you LOVE for some time now. What a shift to curated interiors represents is a greater commitment to the one of a kind.

Expect to see a drop-off in mass-market pieces and an uptick in heirlooms, vintage finds, and handmade items. This shift reflects an increasing desire to create cozy, lived-in spaces that intimately reflect our individual tastes.

Does this mean you can never buy from a major brand or big box store ever again? No! But expect to see a greater proportion of unique pieces – both refurbished and custom-made – over off-the-shelf items.

Innovative Wallpapering

Wallpaper has been a must over the past few years, and the fervor is expected to keep growing!

Patterned wallpaper – from simple stripes to more ornate designs – will be in even greater demand in 2024. In addition, ceiling wallpaper installations will continue to increase in popularity throughout the year.

Forecasters also predict an increased interest in softer wallpaper finishes! Tactile options that feature wool, string, and other fabric weaves will see wider adoption in the year ahead.

Textural Take-Over

Bringing dimension to interiors won’t stop with wallpaper. Textural touches will be in high demand throughout 2024, particularly textures with organic flair.

Now here's a winning combination! Lara brought warm, visual texture to the walls of this guest room with our Artisan Plaster Blush Texture wallpaper, then added the same blush warmth to the ceiling with textured, limewash paint.

Limewash paint skyrocketed in popularity throughout 2023 and will continue its upward trajectory. Other organic finishes, including ceramic, terracotta, dynamic woods, natural stone, and handwoven textiles, will be in high demand. And while not necessarily unique in and of themselves, these textural elements are perfect complements to more curated interiors.

Open Floor Plans… with an Asterisk

Open layouts have been the darling of residential design for decades. However, pandemic lockdowns prompted a collective re-evaluation of our floorplan’s functionality. Today, the demands of hybrid and remote work are continuing to call this age-old standard into question.

While open floor plans won’t disappear entirely, we are actively choosing which areas stay open, which are walled off, and how to create a flow between the two.

The need for multi-functional spaces has highlighted the importance of our single-purpose rooms. Whether these sacred spaces are reserved for relaxing and reconnecting with loved ones – or for containing our professional demands so they remain distinctly separate from our personal lives – we are consciously creating homes in 2024 that better support how we live today.
